«Prince of Persia» is a videogame series that was originally created by Jordan Mechner, a game programmer and designer from New York.
Before «Prince Of Persia», Mechner created «Karateka» in 1984, which featured the same kind of realistic animations that were used in «Prince of Persia». Mechner used a technique called rotoscoping, studying hour of film of his younger brother David jumping and running in white clothes to make the graphics animation as accurate as possible.
The first version of «Prince of Persia» was released in 1989 for the Apple II, and was later ported to many other systems, including the Amiga, Atari ST, PC, and many videoconsoles, including a version for the Xbox Live Arcade released on 2007. It's fluid animations, innovative combat system, and challeging puzzles made it an instant classic.
This was just the beginning, and the «Prince of Persia» series still continues to our day, with a live-action planned to be released in 2010, and a new installment of this videogame planned for the end of 2008.
